Tracking is great fun and gives our dogs so much fantastic, natural, motivational exercise using one of their most powerful tools - their nose.
Introduction to Tracking is a 1 x 2 hour session to take you through some initial exercises to learn how to lay a simple track and how to work with your dog to allow them to track. Training sessions take place at our location in St Just or can take place at another location. Please call before booking if you are wanting your session to take place at another location.
Subsequent sessions can then be arranged which would usually be an hour, meeting here or off site locally, or further afield where travel costs may apply.
It's pretty addictitve once you start, so if you would like to do follow up sessions, you can do 1 hour, 90 minute or 2 hour sessions, or why not invest in a package of three sessions.
Tracking, simply put, is about following a ground scent from A to B. We start by laying a track and teaching you to handle your dogs to follow a scent (bear in mind they can do this already), gradually adding in difficulty and working on your handling techniques. You will also gain an understanding of how to harness the power of their noses and how to reward. No experience necessary, all sorts of dogs can do this, and dogs that find it difficult to work around others are welcome. Note all dogs must be wearing a well-fitting harness. Dogs will be on lead at all times.
The training is held outdoors so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Your dog will need a Y shaped harness at the front and you will need a long line. Full details of what to bring with you will be supplied in your confirmation email once you have booked.
