Calm Down Canine
- for teenage tearaways, rowdy rescues and gobby grown-ups.
Do you feel your dog does not listen to you? Suddenly the training your puppy picked up so easily has gone out of the window? Does your dog suddenly pull you in to the bushes, to people, or another dog?
Adolescence can be a very challenging stage with your puppy. Those teenage hormones and habits kick in and your lovely puppy suddenly stops listening to you, becomes frustrated, and finds it difficult to concentrate. Our Calm Down Canine workshop helps you through those difficult few months. Or maybe you have a rescue or older dog that finds it difficult to settle or focus. Usually these are social dogs who struggle on the lead or off lead. If your dog has shown any aggression around other dogs or people, please call before booking as this will likely not be the class for you.
My workshops are a little bit different to a lot of workshops. You work with your dog, and watch others working with theirs. Before and throughout the workshop you build your own individual plan to include:
- Where you are now - what is happening and why it is happening.
- Where you want to be - your goal, you decide the specifics of what you would like to work on.
- How you get there - you put together your individual plan to build reliable behaviours.
You will get access to relevant videos and a worksheet on how to build your plan. Limited to a small group of dogs so that you get individual help, we will work on what YOU need to work on with your dog. Attend just one workshop to set you on the right path, or book on to multiple workshops to help build your skills and practise amongst relevant distractions in a safe environment.
The workshops are scheduled for 2 hours, but please allow a little extra time as sometimes we get in to some great discussions which would be a shame to curtail, up to 2.5 hours maximum.
Groups are small so that you can get lots of one to one help. There will always be a lot of commonality between issues, and your sharing of experiences is likely to help others in the group.
During the workshop, we will work on some of the core skills that we would all like to develop with our dog such as focussing on you, manners, plus a big emphasis on settling and just being able to hang out with you when other dogs and humans are around. We take things slowly and calmly with this group so that arousal levels are kept low and we teach you the skills to help your dog relax. We may include group and individual exercises and lots of mental activity.
To attend one of these workshop it is essential that you have previously attended a 1 to 1 assessment with myself or an approved trainer so that I have a better understanding about your needs, your skills and your dog’s skills. If you have not already been assessed, please call Carolyn on 07815 167247 to discuss BEFORE you book on to a workshop
Dogs need to be happy wearing a harness for this workshop as we may be working some of the time on long lines. They also need to be happy being left in the car as we often work with each dog individually for part of the workshop. Dogs who may get over-excited, frustrated, or struggle around other dogs can be accommodated - if you have any concerns give me a call on 07815 167247.
The class is held outdoors so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Full details of what to bring with you will be supplied in your confirmation email once you have booked.
Please be aware that there may be reasons beyond our control that your workshop date changes e.g. exceptionally bad weather. If this happens we will book you on to the next available workshop.
