Life Skills Club
- lifelong learning for dogs from 6 months upwards.

Do you feel your dog has some skills, but sometimes does not listen to you, particularly when other dogs are around?
Are you looking for some fun training with your dog to build focus?
Or do you just want to sharpen up your own skills and do some lifelong learning with your dog?

This class is Ideal for graduating puppies (Calm Down Club is another option if your puppy has turned into a teenage tearaway), building skills with rescues or older dogs, or dogs that have come along to our Calm Down Club and want to further their skills.

If you have not trained with us before it can be useful to do a 1 to 1 before joining this group so that we have a better understanding about your needs, your skills and your dog’s skills. These can take place after the classes, or at other times during the week, and then you can usually join in the following week if there is space. Call Carolyn on 07815 167247 to discuss and book in your 1 to 1 BEFORE you book your weeks.

Each week we will work on the core skills that we would all like to develop with our dogs - coming when called, walking with you, and manners, plus a big emphasis on fun settling and just being able to hang out with you. We include group and individual exercises and lots of mental activity. As your dog gets better at the skills you are training, we will up the criteria to ensure that all dogs are learning throughout your attendance.  We aim to cover:
  • Walking on a loose lead and learning to ignore distractions
  • Coming back when called from play and distractions
  • Staying in one spot
  • Calmness and settling
  • Improving social skills and polite greetings with dogs and humans
  • Handling and grooming, vet inspections
  • Emergency stop
  • Fun training games
  • Introduction to agility
  • Scentwork.
Groups will be small so that you can ask about particular challenges with your dog as we work through the exercises. There will always be a lot of commonality between issues, and your sharing of experiences is likely to help others in the group.

The class is held outdoors so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Full details of what to bring with you will be supplied in your confirmation email once you have booked. Please note that we try to stick to the dates advertised, but sometimes we need to cancel due to weather or illness. If we do, we will agree with the group either adding on a week at the end, or adding on some time to the subsequent weeks if available.

We've been attending Life Skills Club with our one year old rescue female Jack Russell for a few months. We all enjoy it so much that we will be signing up for a third session in the New Year. Our dog is learning a lot faster than we do but gradually she and Vicki (our trainer) is getting through to us and we are improving! The training methods mean that we never feel we are 'doing it wrong' but are always supported to get satisfying results. Thanks Carolyn and Vicki for all the help.
