Calm Down Club Club
- for teenage tearaways, rowdy rescues and gobby grown-ups.

Do you feel your dog does not listen to you? Suddenly the training your puppy picked up so easily has gone out of the window?
Does your dog walk nicely to heel or suddenly pull you in to the bushes, to people, or another dog?
Does your dog come back when called? What about when other dogs are around?

Weekly class at 11am Saturdays at our training Centre in St Just, so an outside environment. Paid 5 weeks in advance. If a date is not highlighted, it may not be available - do call feel free to call and we will see if we can fit you in.

Calm Down Club is an ideal next step from Puppy Club to build some more foundation skills as your dog matures, or also great if you are picking up classes from about 6 months. Adolescence can be a very challenging stage with your puppy. Those teenage hormones and habits kick in and your lovely puppy suddenly stops listening to you, becomes frustrated, and finds it difficult to concentrate. Our Calm Down Club helps you through those difficult few months.

If you have an older dog, a rescue that has has no training, or just an unsettled adult, this also could be the class for you.
  • A rolling start so you can join as soon as your dog is old enough and we have space - see calendar above.
  • Pay for attendance in 5 week blocks.
  • Small classes so you get lots of one to one help.
  • Sessions last approximately 45 minutes.
  • All breeds of dogs can attend.
  • Follow on classes are available.
Each week we will work on the core skills that we would all like to develop with our dogs - coming when called, walking with you, and manners, plus a big emphasis on fun settling and just being able to hang out with you and settle when other dogs and humans are around. We take things slowly and calmly with this group so that arousal levels are kept low and we teach you the skills to help your dog relax. We include group and individual exercises and lots of mental activity:
  • Loose lead walking and learning to ignore distractions
  • Coming back when called from play
  • Inspection - handling as per standard vet inspection
  • Sit and down, staying in one spot
  • Polite greetings with humans and dogs
The class is outdoors so as close to real life situations as we can. Groups will be small so that you can ask about particular challenges with your dog as we work through the exercises. There will always be a lot of commonality between issues, and your sharing of experiences is likely to help others in the group. You can continue in the group as long as you are getting something out of it and there is space, paying 5 weeks at a time.

If there are specific training issues you want to work through or you are starting from scratch with your dog, we suggest that you do this in a 1 to 1, and then you can bring those skills to the group setting, rather than your dog (and you) working on difficult new skills in a distracting group environment. If you come up through our puppy classes you will be fine to join straight in to this group. Otherwise we would always recommend a 1 to 1 before joining this group, but that is not essential if you already have some core skills with your dog.

If your has shown any aggression around other dogs or people, please call before booking, you may just need a little help before joining the group. If you would like to book a 1 to 1 then please call Carolyn on 07815 167247.

The class is held outdoors so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Full details of what to bring with you will be supplied in your confirmation email once you have booked.
